Ferozepur, May 2, 2013: "There is a need to make the process of sanctioning of leave to prisoners simple so that crowd in the jails could be reduced. Besides this, the arrangements for applying of bail through the advocate of Free Legal Services Authority should be for those prisoners who cannot apply for bail due to financial problem through the private counsel", said Manjit Singh Nagarg, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur in a meeting called to review the reducing of crowd in the jails.
On this occasion, Fatehdeep Singh, District and Sessions Judge was also present.
Deputy Commissioner directed the Jail Superintendent present in the meeting to make concrete efforts to reduce the crowds in the jails besides organising de-addictions camps in the jail premises so that the addicted prisoners could be admitted in the De-addiction Centers.
Speaking on the occasion, Fatehdeep Singh, District and Sessions Judge said, “DNA test centres should be available in all the States because sometime because it takes a number of months to get its report with the result it becomes difficult to take a right decision. He also said, free legal services are available for the prisoners by Free Legal Aid Authority besides making arrangements for Lok Adalats in the jails so that the long pending cases are decided immediately."
In the meeting, ADC (General) Sonali Giri, Jail Supdt B.K.Sidhu, Civil Surgeon, Ferozepur Dr.Awtar Singh Gill, Civil Surgeon Fazilka Dr.Baldev Raj, Deputy Supdt. Jial Suchha Singh, DSP(H) Jasbir Singh, DSP Jalalabad Surinder Pal Singh, DPRO Amrik Singh and district officers were present.
