Ferozepur, May 2, 2013: There is a great resentment among the Transport Unions on shifting of Regional Transport Authority (RTA) office from Ferozepur to Bahtinda.
A meeting all the Transport Unions was held today to discuss the issue of shifting of RTA office from Ferozepur to Bahtinda and decided to submit a memorandum to Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Irrigation Minister, Kamal Sharma, Punjab BJP President, Joginder Singh Jindu, MLA and former BJP MLA Sukhpal Singh Nannu.
Manjit Singh, President, Transport Unions along with the representatives of all the Unions said, Ferozepur District is already known as a backward district which used to be one of the biggest district in the State. But with the formation of Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar and Moga Districts, the area operation has already been reduced. Moreover, Ferozepur is presently a divisional headquarter and shifting of RTA office, the transporters of the area would be facing lot of inconvenience.
It is pertinent to mention recently the Regional Office of MGSIPAP has also been shifted to Bathinda and with the shifting of RTA office established in Ferozepur in 1975, it looks as if the present government is bent upon shifting all regional offices to Bathinda and there is possibility of changing the divisional headquarter status also.
