Ferozepur, May 10, 2013: Despite strong protest by the Congress leaders and workers continuously three days for the incident of firing at the time of filing of nominations for Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections, at Tehsil complex at Mamdot on May 7, has taken a new turn.
The murderous attack and firing allegations levelled by the Congress leaders against the Akalis are “fabricated”, said IG Nirmal Singh Dhillon while speaking to the media persons in a press conference called today in the office of SSP, Ferozepur.
The incident of firing at Mamdot which took the ugly position after the allegations and counter-allegations and putting up a strong protest from the Congress leaders and workers on May 9 for the incident of scuffle between the two major parties – Congress and BJP – over the filing of nominations papers for Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections at Mamdot on May 7, the special investigating team (SIT) was constituted to probe in to the incident.
IG Dhillon said, the theory of investigation submitted by the SIT has been authenticated by medical board, ballistic expert and forensic department. As per the report, there had been no sign on the clothes which PA Naseeb Singh was wearing on account of firing on his thigh besides finding of no land, copper or nitrate powder. It has also come on surface that bullet has been planted in the thigh with hot iron.
However, IG police had admitted about the using of abusing language and Rana Sodhi was intercepted besides beating Naseeb Sandhu. The firing was denied by Sukhmandar Singh SI deployed for the security of Rana Sodhi. The complaint by Bibi Jagir Kaur against Rana Sodhi has also been found to be concocted.
In reply to the question, IG confirmed that on receipt of final report of SIT, the action will be taken against the accused.
On the other hand, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi Congress MLA said, “The Punjab Police are working under pressure of Akalis and what else could be expected from them.”
In reply to the question, Rana Sodhi said, further course of action will be initiated after discussing the matter with the party high command.
