Chandigarh, April 30, 2013: Government agencies and private millers procured more than 9389555 tones of wheat till last evening compared to 8022270 tones of wheat during last year. The State Government has set up more than 1750 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat.
The spokesman of the government said that Out of total procurement of 9389555 tones of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 9296552 tones of wheat till date whereas private traders procured 93003 tones of wheat. PUNGRAIN procured 1675642 tones (17.8%), MARKFED procured 2077369 tones (22.1%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 1936673 tones (20.6%) PSWC procured 1092559 tones (11.6%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 870541 tones (9.3 %) of wheat.The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 1643768 tones (17.5%).
The spokesman added that District Sangrur with 884918 tones of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Ludhiana with 802021 tones of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala with 788933 tones of procurement ranked at third position.
