Chandigarh, April 17, 2013: The Transport Department Punjab government has launched E-governance project in all the 22 districts of Punjab.
Stating this here today, Ajit Singh Kohar Transport minister Punjab said here today that the project initiated first time in India by the transport department was fully successful and have already been effectively implemented in all the districts.
He said that with the introduction of this online project the dependence of general public on officers has been minimized. He said that computerization of transport department was not only restricted to one or two services but also included registration at dealers desk, online payment of fee and taxes, licenses at educational institutes etc.
He said that with introduction of e-Governance in the transport department Punjab has become the first state in the country to introduce Smart Card facility for driving licenses and certificates for registration of vehicles. Other facilities like learner license, issuance by college Principles, web based payment of taxes and fee and an online system for vehicle registration at dealer point. Department introduces paperless office concept in all the field offices by scanning of all the applicants’ documents.
Kohar said that the governments of UtraKhand and Oddisa fascinated by this project and were on the way of introducing the same in their respective states. A team from Kenya also visited Punjab to study this project, said Kohar.
