75-80 ACRES standing wheat crop damaged due to fire

Ferozepur, April 17, 2013: On Tuesday, in village Mana Singh Wala, about 75-80 acres of standing wheat crop, ready to harvest was damaged due to sudden fire which engulfed the fields due to fast winds.

On coming to know of fire incident in the fields, about 150-200 tractors from the adjoining villages reached near the field to defuse the fire besides fire brigade engines.

Jaswinder Singh of village Butewala said, about 75-80 acres of land, belonging to Member Panchayat Shinder Singh, Ranjit Singh, Jagtar Singh, Mukhtiar Singh, Amar Singh and Chand Singh, had been damaged due to fire. The farmers gathered there informed that a plug on the pole in the field was sparking since long which caused the fire in the fields for which the farmers have spoken to electricity board employees a number of times but did not pay any attention. 

Deputy Commissioner, Ferozpur, Manjit Singh Narang and Bhupinder Singh, Executive Engineer, Powercom, Manjit Singh, Tehsildar and others reached the spot of fire incident and the deputy commissioner immediately ordered to investigate into the cause of fire and in case it is found that the cause of fire is due to the negligence of Powercom, the farmers will be compensated by electricity board.
