Chandigarh, April 2, 2013: State Vigilance Bureau today nabbed two Inspectors posted at Punjab Roadways depot Sri Muktsar Sahib red-handed accepting bribe from a conductor.
Disclosing this here today, Sursh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau Punjab said that Bureau has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere in the State. In this direction, the Vigilance Bureau caught Gurdip Singh and Jaswant Singh both Inspectors posted at Punjab Roadways depot Sri Muktsar Sahib, demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant Jasbir Singh Conductor (No. PC-74) Punjab Roadways Depot, Ferozpur.
He added that the complainant approached the Bureau and alleged that both the accused Roadways Inspectors have checked his bus on March 25 and were demanding a bribe of Rs. 50,000 for not reporting any adverse complaint against him to the authorities. But the deal was struck at Rs. 20,000 as a first instalment. After finding the veracity of facts a vigilance team led by Bikramjit Singh DSP Vigilance Bureau Ferozpur laid a trap and both the accused were nabbed red handed in the presence of two government officials as witnesses. The tainted money was recovered from Gurdip Singh. In this regard a vigilance case under u/s 7, 13 (1) read with 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Ferozpur and further investigation was under progress.
