
Annual Day celebrations taking place at Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala.
Kapurthala, March 19, 2014: Creativity and innovation are the two key drivers for socio-economic development of a country. It is in this context that the Govt. of India is laying tremendous emphasis in promoting innovation in a big way, stated Director General Dr R. S. Khandpur in the Annual Day celebration function held at the Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala.
The Science City has joined hands with Punjab Technical University to promote innovation among the students of professional colleges. Competition on display of projects and models developed by the students of the engineering colleges, polytechnic colleges, industrial training institutes and teachers has become an eagerly awaited annual feature. The competition receives an enthusiastic response from the students as more than 1500 participant registered for the event.
The Science City now occupies a prominent place in the heart and minds of the students and teachers of Punjab as is evident from the increasing number of visitors to the Science City. Dr. Khandpur thanked the public of the region for their overwhelming response as more than 29.50 lakh visitors have visited the Science City since its opening to the public in March 2005.
Dr. Khandpur also mentioned about the new attractions in the Science City. The Climate Change Theatre which was recently opened to the public . This facility offers a one-of-a-kind experience filled with magnificent environmental effects. The show outline the menacing challenge of climate change. The show will focus on our current lifestyle and how it is impacting the entire planet, emphasizing on the steps that are required to be taken to minimize the impact of global warming on the planet. The Show will provide a foundation for inspiring and educating Science City visitors and the community about climate change, sustainable development, renewable energy and environmental responsibility.
The Chief Guest Dr.Ajaib Singh Brar Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar & appreciated the initiative of the Science City in promoting creativity and innovation and developing scientific temper among the general masses. He said that such programmes encourage competitiveness and entrepreneurship among young students and motivate them to take up careers in science and technology.
The various activities organised in connection with the Annual Day event called INNO TECH-2014 was spread over 2 days. These activities provided platform to the students to showcase their creativity and futuristic thoughts. On this occasion students of Engineering colleges, Polytechnic and ITIs participated in the various competitions such as display of working models, quiz and science fiction essays.
Computer Software Engineering :Suneha seth from Rayat Bara college of Engineering Khara stood first( Rs25,000) (Project: Thriving Education,),second prize (Rs 15,000) has been received by Hitash (Project: Soft SMS2) from Guru Nanak Engineering College Ludhiana. and Third prize (Rs.10,000) goes to Ishant Raju from (Project: Data Shield) Chandigarh Engineering College Chandigarh.
Polytechnic Computer Software:Gourvjit Singh from Guru Nanak Dev Polytechnic College Clinched first prize (Rs 20,000 ) (Project : Lak Blogging Engine) Pawan from Mehar Chand Polytechnic College Jalandhar got second prize (Rs.10,000) (Project: Friends APP).
Post Graduate Computer Software: Rajvinder Singh from Punjabi Univeristy Patiala has received first prize (Rs 10,000) Project: Punjabi Pedia

Polytechnic Category: Manpreet Singh from CTPC Shahpur clinched first prize (Rs.20,000) Project : Hydrogen Fuel supplemented gasoline engine, second prize (Rs.10,000) has been achieved by Simran Singh from Sidana Polytechnic College (Project: Supar-BAJA) and Third Prize (Rs.5000) goes to Palwinder singh belongs to Mehr Chand polytechnic College Jalandhar (Project Model : E Trcycle for Handicapped).
Science Fiction: Engineering category: Taranvir Singh from Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering college, Fathegarh Sahib got first prize, Second prize bagged to Saanchi Minocha from CTIEMT Shahpur Campus.
Polytechnic Category: First prize has been achieved Shivam Sharma from Pt.J.R Govt.Polytechnic College Hoshiarpur. Tarandeep Singh also from Pt. J.R govt. Polytechnic college, Hoshiarpur stood second, third prize goes to Aarti, Pt. J.R govt. Polytechnic college, Hoshiarpur and Consolation Prize has been won by Chandeep Singh, from Mehr Chand Polytechnic Jalandhar.
Quiz Competition Engineering: first Prize has been received by NIT Jalandhar, Chitkara University stood second and third prize has clinched RIMT Khana Ludhiana.
Quiz Competition Polytechnic: Mehar Chand Polytechnic Jalandhar stood first , second prize has been received by Guru Nanak Polytechnic college Ludhiana and Pt. JR Polytechnic college Hoshiarpur clinched the third Prize.
