Look at the so-called upcoming Paris – LUDHIANA
Ludhiana, June 13, 2013: City experienced a heavy rain on Thursday.
Sharing his experiences, Sanjay Goel, a resident of Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana, has sent a photograph, in which a portion of the busy road is seen caved in due to the rain today. While expressing his sentiments about the prevailing infrastructure in this big industrial city of Punjab, he has tried to attract attention of the authorities concerned by writing “the so called upcoming Paris – Ludhiana”, as the headline of his feelings alongwith the attached photograph (see the picture with this report).
Goel writes: “How would you feel while driving a car on a VIP wide road of Ludhiana, enjoying the first rain of monsoon with music and suddenly you feel your car crawling down into the earth along with road? scared? undoubtedly this is what, is going to happen next in Ludhiana after the sunken of road in Kichlu Nagar.
What could be more shameful for the government who is planning for mega projects like metro, flyover and underpasses in Ludhiana, if the very basic roads are leaving such expressions.
Ludhiana Municipal Corporation should take inspiration from Chandigarh roads, so old built still never frowned like this. I feel pity as an architect for “Ludhiana” for which government has high dreams of Paris.”
Goel is also the joint secretary of the Indian Institute of Architects (Chandigarh-Punjab Chapter).
Really, the words’ penned by Goel narrates his feelings from depth of his heart. He has tried to awaken the authorities and also the state government, which are making tall claims of making Ludhiana a really “Metro City” time and again. But, the ground realities seem to be something different. It was around 25-30 meter long portion of the busy road, which caved in today. And this is not for the first time that such a situation has arisen. Similar situations have occurred in the past. There is a dire need that some concrete measures be taken to avoid recurrence of such things in the future.
