
More than 1,850 transport vehicles were checked and 487 were challaned/impounded/issued noticesin Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, June 13, 2013: To Curb the tendency of plying unauthorised vehicles with incomplete documents, driving overloaded vehicles and make the city pollution free, State Transport Authority, U.T., Chandigarh during the month of May, 2013 carried out intensive checking campaign of commercial vehicles.
More than 1,850 transport vehicles were checked and 487 were challaned/impounded/issued notices (see details in image file with this report).
By compounding the above challans Rs. 9, 20,700 were recovered as composition fee. More checking will be done in next days.
The Secretary, STA, Balbir Singh Dhol, has advised the people to keep the documents complete in their vehicles i.e. R.C., Insurance, Driving License, Pollution Under Control Certificate and permit and not to overload their vehicles while travelling so that they may not face unnecessary inconvenience.
Auto Rickshaw and Taxi operators are advised to install and keep the fare meter in working order otherwise high penalty will be charged as per Motor Vehicle Act.
A move for checking Driving Schools and Pollution Check centers have been started for good quality of driving and to make city beautiful a smoke free city.
It has been seen that there are passenger 3-wheelers which are plying over capacity and with long curtains hanging outside the vehicles which is very dangerous though sometimes they are tied. Long curtains will not be tolerated at all.
People have been advised to use public transport polled cars/taxies to avoid congestion of roads and parking places.
