Ludhiana, June 1, 2013: An event named “Ahuti” is being held on June 2 (11 am to 1 pm) at the Antardrishti Kendra situated at New Kichlu Nagar here.

According to Tarsem Singh, Antardrishti Co-ordinator, the event is aimed at raising contributions for the development and strengthening of the activities of the Kendra.

He said India houses world's largest population of blind people. Of the 37 million blind people across the globe, over 15 million are from India. This population is forced to languish unemployed, due to lack of government initiatives.

He added Antardrishti is an initiative that works on a two-way approach in empowering and rehabilitating visually impaired and physically challenged people. “First being psychological counselling and inner strengthening, and second, social and economic strengthening”, he said.

Adding, he said the Antardrishti Kendra will see the manufacturing units of Aroma candles, Herbal soaps and Cookies and Stitching. Embarking on social and economic strengthening of visually and physically handicapped people, this centre will cater to hundreds of beneficiaries, he reveals.

Further, he said this Kendra will provide employment to the visually and physically handicapped people who were gripped in the life of begging and captivated in the negativity; they were part of street rackets. But after coming in touch with the Antardrishti programme, their lives witnessed such positive change that now they are not only supporting their family with a dignified living but are moving ahead with the objective of social welfare, he said.
