Ludhiana, May 14, 2013: Dr NK Aggarwal of NK Aggarwal Joints & Spine Centre, Ludhiana has extended medical help free of cost to a 27-year-old patient belonging to a financially challenged family.

Dr. Aggarwal has claimed that he did not charge even a single penny for the treatment of the patient. The patient had gone to a few local private hospitals for the treatment but he was told that the treatment would cost in lakhs to him.

The patient, a resident of Partap Singh Wala in the district, had complained of gradually increasing pain in both his hip joints for 8-10 years. This pain had been unbearable for last a half and one years and he had not been unable to sit cross legged and squat on the floor. He had also been having sleep disturbance because of pain. He had been taking variety of pain killers over the years but his pain was not relieved even with pain killers. He was practically bed ridden and unable to mobilise at all. Any attempted movement of the hips was extremely painful and lead to muscle spasm. He had got addicted to certain drugs and opium products. He also gave history of being heavy alcoholic for more than 10 years. This possibly was the cause of decay and degeneration of his hip joints.

He was operated at N K Aggarwal Joints & Spine Centre by Dr NK Aggarwal on May 1 when both hip joints were replaced with new ceramic hips during the same operation. It is extremely rare to do both hip replacements at the same time, claims Dr. Aggarwal. He also claims it is possibly first such operation performed in this region. He tolerated the operation well and was able to start walking with in 24 hrs after the operation. He can now walk without pain and shall soon return to his job and look after his family.

The patient and his family members are thankful to Dr. Aggarwal for extending him medical treatment free of cost on humanitarian grounds. Otherwise, he and his family, was unable to pay huge medical bills for the treatment. While the patient himself worked as a driver, his mother used to work as maid. He has two minor children besides his 14 –year-old brother who is still studying in the school. The patient told that a few of his locality residents and relatives helped him financially during the crisis.
