CME being organised by Kulwant Heart Centre, Ludhiana on Friday.
Ludhiana, May 4, 2013: Number of Diabetes patients is rapidly increasing worldwide, especially in India. More than one percent of Indian children are diabetic and in this country every year about 1 million people lose a leg due to this disease.
To share knowledge and exchange views a CME was organised by Kulwant Heart Centre here on Friday, where about 100 top brains from all over Punjab met to exchange views about advances in Diabetes. In the academic session chaired by the region’s renowned diabetologists, Dr Parminder Singh and Dr Vipin Talwar, doctors listened to Prof Dr. Luc Van Gaal of University Hospital, Belgium about newer developments in diabetes treatment – the Incredible Incretins.
Incretins have the advantage of weight loss and better post-meal glycemic control. While Incretins, the newly emerging group of anti-diabetes medicines promise a lot to the diabetic patients, however like all medication care is required as they also increase the chance of serious pancreatitis problem. This factor is especially important in a state like Punjab where the consumption of alcohol is high. Patients with renal impairment need reduced dose of the newer drug.
Dr Kulwant Singh thanked Dr Gursaran Sidhu, Head of the Department of Medicine at Sidhu Hospital and President of the Indian Assos of Clinical Medicine, Dr. L. S. Chawla, founder Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Medical Science, Dr Sobti, Punjab State President of IMA and others for gracing the occasion. Senior physicians Dr.G.S.Grewal, Dr. Karamvir Goyal, Dr.S.S.Sibia, Dr.R.S.Batra and Dr M.P.S.Sadana were also present on the occasion.
