Ludhiana, May 2, 2013: A city resident has been arrested under the NDPS Act on Thursday, for allegedly carrying huge quantity of habit forming drugs without a bill and a licence.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the Ludhiana Anti-Narcotics Cell in-charge Harbans Singh told that the accused identified as Puneet Sharma of Deep Nagar was apprehended at a naka laid near Kalgidhar Chowk here at around 1-30 pm. The accused was driving a scooter when apprehended. He was allegedly carrying 12,510 habit forming capsules, tablets and cough syrups.
Harbans Singh further told that the accused had purchased this consignment at a cheaper rate from a drug store in Pindi Street here. He said the accused had a plan to dispose off this consignment after keeping a profit, adding the accused failed to show a bill and a licence for carrying this hige consignment of drugs.
He also said a case had been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act, adding the police with assistance of health authorities would be initiating legal action against the owner of the concerned drug store in Pindi Street tomorrow.
