Ludhiana, April 28, 2013: A large number of unemployed linemen, alongwith their family members, staged a protest dharna near the residence of the Punjab PWD Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon on Barewal Road here on Sunday.

They shouted slogans against the state government and the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) management for not acceding to their demand of getting them recruited.

Tight security arrangements were seen near the minister’s residence to ensure maintenance of complete law and order and peace.

Addressing the protestors, their leaders including Soma Singh Bharo (chief adviser) and Jagtar Singh Mahinangal (general secretary) said the PSPCL had advertised 5,000 posts of linemen in January 2011. They added only 1,000 applicants were selected while 4,000 were left on the pretext of pending court cases against further recruitment at that time.

Representatives of the linemen also met the minister and narrated their story.
