Chandigarh, April 25, 2013: Wheat Procurement is on full swing in Punjab. State procurement agency MARKFED achieved first position in wheat procurement. MARKFED procured 1521658, the 22.0 per cent of the total procurement of the state.
Government agencies and private millers procured more than 6906055 tonnes of wheat till last evening
Out of total procurement of 6906055 tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 6852760 tonnes of wheat till date, whereas private traders procured 53295 tonnes of wheat, PUNGRAIN had procured 1236336 tonnes (17.9%) whereas PUNSUP procured 1440950 tonnes (20.9%), PSWC procured 809135 tonnes (11.7%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 646572 tonnes (9.4 %) of wheat.
The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 1198109 tonnes (17.3%).
The spokesman added that District Sangrur with 783968 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations, whereas District Patiala with 761968 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Ludhiana with 618340 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
The state government has set up more than 1,750 procurement centers and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat, the spokesman added.
