Ludhiana, April 9, 2013: As a part of the World Health Day celebrations being held worldwide, the Rotaract Club of Ludhiana Medicos (under the aegis of Rotary Club Ludhiana Greater) organised an interactive session on the topic 'Prevention and Screening of Hypertension' here today at the SRS Government Polytechnic College for Girls, Ludhiana.
Dr. GS Wander, Chief Cardiologist, Hero DMC Heart Institute presided over as the expert speaker at the event. Stressing on the importance of Hypertension or High Blood Pressure as a major public health problem across the world, Dr. Wander urged the students to adopt a healthy and stress-free lifestyle as the seeds for this disease are laid in the young age only and an increasing number of patients are being reported in the younger age group. He suggested six simple steps which can drastically reduce the risk of developing Hypertension. He suggested to reducing salt intake and eating a balanced diet, avoiding harmful use of alcohol, doing regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy body weight, avoiding tobacco use and leading a stress-free life.
This Health Talk was organised as a part of the Health Week celebrations being observed by the Rotaract Club on occasion of the World Health Day, the theme for which is also 'Control your Blood Pressure.
The Principal of the College Dr. M.P. Singh and Prof. S.P. Singh thanked Dr. G. S. Wander for enlightening the students and the Faculty members about this disease and appreciated the efforts of Dr. Sanjeev Uppal, Charter President, Rotary Club Ludhiana Greater and Vibhushit Kaul, President Rotaract Club. The Club Directors Savneet Grewal and Azmat Sandhu were also present at the event.
