Ludhiana, December 6, 2014: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Ludhiana Ludhiana today demanded to know what action the Punjab Government was going to pursue after the raids by PPCB found major effluent treatment violations in raids conducted at a corporate house yesterday.
According to AAP Ludhiana Convener Ahbaab Grewal, “Every few years when the public hue and cry over the pollution of the Buddha Nullah reaches its crescendo, the Pollution Control Board conducts a few raids, issues a few press statements, thus seeming to appease the Public and then its business back to usual with no action ever being taken. Many crores have already been spent on so called action plans without the situation improving even to any small extent”.
This time, with relentless pressure having been built up by the Aam Aadmi Party, whose leader H. S. Phoolka with the help of experts presented a cost effective and simple plan on June 3rd 2014, to get rid of the effluents and clean the Buddha Nullah, the Pollution Control Board again seems to be doing an eye wash service.
Grewal further added that if concrete action was not taken up on highest priority basis, the situation along the Buddha Nullah which has grown monstrously alarming, will further worsen and prove deadly for not only all residents of Ludhiana and the State but for neighbouring states as well.
