Ludhiana, March 6, 2013: Shivratri Mahotsva Committee, Ludhiana president Sunil Mehra has warned the city Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwarhia that if he failed to postpone the date of meeting of general house of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (LMC) then they would be constrained to “gherao” him on March 6.
In a statement here this evening, he told that a decision this effect was taken at a meeting of the committee held today.
He said the Mayor had convened the general house meeting on March 9, adding the committee too was taking out 26th Shobha Yatra on that particular day on the occasion of Mahashivratri. He said they had already informed the Mayor about the big event, adding rather.
Mehra told that they had apprised the Mayor in advance about their event even before and after announcement of holding of the general house meeting of LMC but the Mayor did not change the day for holding the LMC general house meeting.
He said they had apprised the Mayor that all the municipal councillors (MCs), religious, social and others leaders were supposed to participate in Shobha Yatra. He regretted that the Mayor was not paying respect to the “religious sentiments” of people.
The committee chairman Charanjit Bhargav said the Mayor should respect religious sentiments of the people and postpone the date of the general house meeting, otherwise, all the religious minded people of the city would be constrained to launch an agitation against him.
The meeting among others was attended by Mohinder Aggarwal, Amrit Lal Verma, Ashwani Gupta, Parveen Sharma, Gulshan Tandon, Ashwani Sharma, Sunil Kakra, Manoj Tayal, Prem Gupta, Shashi Bhushan Sharma, Chander Rudra, Umesh Soni, Manoj Bhatia, Sanjay Gautam, Sanjiv Thapar and Uma Dutt Sharma.
When contacted, the Ludhiana Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwarhia told City Air News that he had convened a meeting of all the concerned including senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor to decide on the issue. He said the meeting would be held at 3 pm tomorrow, adding they would be considering of holding the general house meeting either at 9 am or 10 am in the morning on March 9 or getting it postponed for next one or two days.
The Mayor told that he duly respect religious sentiments of people. At the same, he wanted to continue development works of the city, he said, adding he had been informed earlier that the shobha yatra would be taken out at 11 am on March 9 following which he had decided to hold the LMC general house meeting at 3 pm. Now, he been told that generally, the shobha yarta started late in the afternoon.
