Sukhbir Badal welcomes financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh to the kin of each victim of ’84 riots

Chandigarh, October 30, 2014: President Shiromani Akali Dal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today thanked and welcomed the sympathetic gesture shown by NDA Government by announcing to give Rs.5 lakh to the kin of each of 3325 victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
In a statement issued here the SAD President welcoming the initiative of NDA government said that this monetary help is a step towards healing up the wounds of 1984 anti-Sikh riots but the Union Government should intensify the legal proceedings to secure justice for Sikh community by awarding exemplary punishments to the perpetrators of Sikh pogrom. He said this initiative has left a reflection that NDA government was firm to deliver justice for Sikh community.
Badal said besides this legal proceedings pertaining to 1984 Sikhs genocide should be intensified and expedited to award severe punishments for architects of anti-Sikh riots. He said that more than 3000 families were struggling legal battles for getting justice but Congress Party was working day and night to save their leaders.
He added that SAD will soon discuss the whole issue and ongoing proceedings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to speed up the cases with fast track hearings so the perpetrators could be put behind bars. He said that SAD was confident that NDA Government would ensure delivery of justice as early as possible to heal the wounds of Sikhs.
