Punjab government releases Rs. 18.65 crore for murrah progeny testing scheme –Ranike

Chandigarh, July 15, 2014: The Punjab Government has released Rs.18.65 crore under National Dairy Plan-I to implement Murrah Progeny Testing Scheme in Punjab to improve the milk yield of domesticated animals in state.
Disclosing this here today, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Animal Husbandry Minister said that the scheme is being implemented through Punjab Live Stock Development Board (PLDB) and under the scheme the Board is using semen of high genetic merit murrah bulls for artificial insemination.
The Minister said that under this scheme high genetic merit murrah calves would be produced which will be further used for semen production.  He said that 11853 animals of Patiala, 9657 animals of Sangrur and 18041 animals of Barnala have been covered in this project. The Minister said that under this scheme free registration (ear tagging) of animal is being done and buffaloes are being inseminated with best quality high genetic murrah bulls He said that after insemination records of pregnant, freshly calved and their milk production is kept and free deworming of freshly born female calves is being done after every 6months. The Minister further said that Rs.1000 is being given as incentive to the farmer after getting complete record of Lactation.
