Second phase of Virasat-e-Khalsa be completed within a year: Thandal

Chandigarh, June 17, 2014: The second phase of the world famous Virasat-e-Khalsa would be completed within a year. Work on this project has already been started and the first installment worth Rs.17 crore has already been released.

Disclosing this here today, Sohan Singh Thandal, Minister for Jail, Tourism, Cultural Affairs and Printing & Stationary, Punjab said that the project cost is Rs.51 crore. He said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has taken personal interest in this coveted project and he himself approved the first installment of Rs.17 crore for this project.

In a press communiqué, Thandal said that the Punjab Government is observing the centenary celebrations of the completion of 350 years of the foundation of Sri Anandpur Sahib City. He said that these celebrations would start on June 19, 2014 and would continue up till one year. He further said that the second phase of Virasat-e-Khalsa would be completed with the closing of year long centenary celebrations in the year 2015.

Thandal said that under this project, 17 new galleries would be constructed, wherein the rich historical, religious and cultural heritage of Punjab, would be depicted in a befitting manner.

The Minister further said that the work on the construction of Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial at Sri Anandpur Sahib has also started. He said this memorial would be constructed upon an area of 5 acre. He said that the land for the memorial has already been demarcated. “As soon as the concept for this memorial is ready, the construction work of this memorial would be commenced”, added Thandal. Tourism Minister said that the series of memorials constructed by the SAD-BJP government in its last term have been maintained with state of the art technology.
