Kaithal (Haryana), June 4,2014 : Haryana has started the Victim Compensation Scheme with a motive to rehabilitate the victims who suffer any injury due to any crime. The Haryana State Legal Services Authority is implementing to the victim of rape, accident and others. The authority takes up the cases of public interest of eight notified public utility services which include transport, postal, telegraph or telephone, supply of water, light or water system of public conservancy or sanitation, services in hospital or dispensary, insurance services, housing and estates, banking and finance.
Justice S.K.Mittal, Executive Chairman of Haryana State Legal Services Authority at Chandigarh Court, interacting with the media persons on Tuesday said that the authority was providing free Legal aid to the families having annual income of less than 1.50 lakh annual income, children, female, ex-service man, prisoners, accused and others.
He said the main motive of the authority was to ensure legal rights of the people, the authority had made a provision of Lok Adalats to settle pending cases of the people with their consent. He said that the building of A.D.R, was under construction where all legal facilitate would be provided under one roof to the people. He stressed upon the need of awareness regarding legal services so that more and more people could be benefited.
Justice S.K.Mittal disclosed that a total of 63,000 (Sixty thousand) Lok Adalats had been held during the last three years and eight lakh cases had been decided in last three years.The HSLSA had provided legal aid to One lakh people and 44 thousand cases of Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) had been settled in Lok Adalats and amount of Rs 424 crore was awarded as compensation.
The Deputy Commissioner of Kaithal, N.K.Solanki said that the awareness regarding free legal aid was being spread through the Night Camps being organised by the district administration. All the departments make the people aware regarding concerned welfare scheme and program-me.
District and Session Judge-cum-Member Secretary of Haryana State Legal Services Authority, Deepak Gupta, District and Session Judge-cum Chairman of thew District Legal Services Authority, Ritu Tagore, Suprintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh Yadav, Additional District and Session Judge, Chandigarh, Vikram Aggarwal, C.J.M-cum-Secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Gahandeep Mittal, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashish Chaudhry and President of the District Bar Association Ramesh Gupta, were among those present on the occasion.
