Ludhiana, December 6, 2013: A high-level delegation led by senior leader of Punjab Congress Krishan Kumar Bawa met the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting (IC) Manish Tewari, and submitted a memorandum regarding expansion of Halwara Airbase in Punjab.
The delegation demanded that Halwara Airbase be given status of an international airport. It also demanded the setting of Cargo Station at this particular airbase. Bawa opined that these steps would bring the state to a new path of trade and industry. Besides, Punjab would generate additional revenue, he said.
Further, Bawa said a large number of people from Punjab had got settled abroad and with implementation of the suggested measures Punjabi NRIs would land on their own motherland directly and people hailing from Malwa would not have to go to Delhi or Amritsar for the purpose. It would also save time and money of a large number of people, he further added.
Tewari assured to the delegation that he would soon speak to Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh in this regard.
