Ludhiana, July 18, 2013: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today strengthened the voice of school bus operators union by lending them full support for their genuine demands. School van operators union is on strike from the last 3 days outside Bhai Isher Singh School, BRS Nagar here.
AAP said these van operators are common man of the nation with limited resources and hand to mouth ability. The government now has come heavy on them and targeting them from all sides. There are 5,000 van operators in the city and such harsh decisions would directly affect 5,000 families, these van operators are more than 20 years old. The voice of van operators is that they will abide by all government directions but they need some time for this, which seems genuine.
It is third day of hunger strike, senior member of the union Iqbal Singh Lakhwalia, who is diabetic, is seriously ill and needs to be hospitalised urgently. But till now no government official has even bothered to ask the concerns of school van operators.
AAP District Secretary Balbir Aggarwal said that they would be meeting District Transport Officer and Deputy Commissioner tomorrow regarding the demands of school van operators. He added that AAP will lend every possible support to school van operators and if needed will begin an agitation in their support.
