Chandigarh, July 15, 2013: Punjab Government has set a target to plant 4.75 crore saplings in the year 2013-14 through the Forest Department. Divulging this here today Surjit kumar Jayani, Forest Minister said that the Department has already launched a special tree plantation campaign for the ongoing monsoon season.
The Minister said that vacant government land suitable for plantation has been identified to increase area under forests. He added that department would also facilitate people who want to plant saplings personally in their lands to make Punjab Greener.
Jayani has also appealed the people to plant more and more plants to save our planet and make lives healthy. He called upon them to celebrate their special occasions by tree plantation.
Minister further said that Punjab Government has also chalked out a plan to buy land to increase area under forests. He added that Punjab Government has also launched a 'Greening Punjab Mission' to double the area under forests from 7 % to 15% in the coming seven years.
