Chandigarh, July 3, 2013: The Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today described the fair and peaceful conduct of Panchayat polls in Punjab as a "powerful triumph of grass-root democracy in the state, and thanked the people of Punjab for reposing complete faith and confidence in the policies and programs of SAD-BJP government ." I am so touched by the overwhelming mandate they have given the alliance again." He said that the thumping and overwhelming victory of the SAD-BJP supported candidates in the panchayat elections has filled the alliance partners with even greater humility and enhanced their senseof responsibility to the people.
In a statement, Badal also felicitated all the workers, leaders, office bearers and rank and file of the SAD-BJP for working day and night to ensure this thumping victory for the ruling alliance. "This, he said, was the outcome of people’s unflinching faith in the policies and programs of the alliance government.’’ The Chief Minister also thanked the civil and police administration in general and State Election Commission in particular for ensuring free, fair and peaceful panchayat polls, as truly reflected in the results on one hand and overwhelming participation of people with heavy polling of over 85% on the other.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister appealed to the newly elected sarpanches and panches to work collectively with utmost dedication, sincerity and commitment for ensuring overall development of the villages and prosperity of their people in the right earnest. He also asked the village panchayats to respond to and fulfill the aspirations and expectations of the people, respecting the historic mandate on the plank of overall development and prosperity as well as the ethos of democratic values.
