Ludhiana, June 25, 2013: A group of 10 persons coming from different facets of society in Ludhiana organised a plantation drive in the city.
The group headed by Adv. Atul Goyal, who hails from Ludhiana but practices at Punjab and Haryana High Court at Chandigarh, had organised a similar event in Ludhiana in the year 2008 planting 200 trees but this year resolved to plant 500 trees in Ludhiana.
The main organisers for the event included Kanwar Sethi, Director Sethi Study Circle from Model Town Ludhiana, Sahil Jain Director Adinath Dyeing Mills, Varun Jindal from Tru Weighing Scales, Tarun Sunjea from Dayal Advertising Agencies, Kamal Singhania and Raghav Singhania from Singhania Group as well as other persons including Durga Mills Store, Vidhata Group and Resilience Judicial Academy from Chandigarh.
Other main volunteers included Navi Sra, Shivaal, Advocate Lalita Jain, Advocate Inderpreet Singh and about 50 students from Sethi Study Circle Model Town Ludhiana.
The 10 different teams approached atleast 2,000 residents in the city and planted 500 fruit trees including Mango, Guava, Pomegranate, Oranges and Jamun inside and outside the premises of residents. In-fact people expressed positive response. The areas covered by team included Rishi Nagar, Model Town, B.R.S. Nagar, Haibowal, Dugri, Vishal Nagar, Rani Jhansi Road, Rajguru Nagar, Deep Nagar and Tagore Nagar. Various teams were reported to have got some donations as well from various residents which they have undertaken to utilise in the next event. The organisers have decided to make it an annual event and have further requested the public at large to help them with funds or any other resources for the next events.
This event has been organised with the objective of curtailing global warming. The mass scale cutting of trees and de-forestation for residential and other various purposes is leading to acute shortage of greenery all around. It is our moral duty to protect our environment and a social responsibility to plant as many trees as possible. The next generation will be looking at us with glaring eyes in case if we would not care for the environment today. The residents were made aware of the harms of global warming and steps to protect the environment by planting more trees.
During this drive trees were also planted at some important places also including, Municipal Councilor from Deep Nagar Area and DAV School at B.R.S. Nagar.
