Ferozepur, June 21, 2013: Nearly 15-feet breach developed in the Shanga canal passing through Mamdot area near Ferozepur, has inundated hundreds acres of paddy, fodder and vegetable fields.
However, the work on filling up the breach has been started after its inspection by the senior officers.
The district administration is also making preparations to ensure that flood protection measures are in place as during the last year, the floods had wreaked havoc with standing crops on over 27000 acres getting damaged which was assessed by a team at Rs.18 crore in this border district.
However, Manjit Singh Narang, deputy commissioner confirmed that work on cleaning and strengthening several drains in Talwandi Bhai, Dhaultpura, Guruahrsahia, Makhu, Zia and Mohkan Bhatti was in progress while the work on link drains is yet to start.
